Police Obtain Warrant in Shooting of Toddler in Glenarden

Prince George’s County Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s District III Investigative Section has obtained a warrant in a shooting outside of an apartment complex in the Town of Glenarden, Maryland, which left a toddler in critical condition.
Detectives have obtained a warrant for Deven Angel Matos, 18, charging him with attempted second degree murder, first and second degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
On August 21, 2011, at approximately 9:15 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 3000 block of Brightseat Road for the report of a shooting.  When the officers arrived, they found a boy, less than a month away from his 2nd birthday, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.  He was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted and remains in critical but stable condition.
The investigation has revealed that two armed suspects began shooting in the apartment complex.  A stray bullet from that firefight struck the toddler as he was being held in his mother’s arms.
