Suspect Charged with Homicide at Suitland Gas Station


Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit detectives arrested and charged a man for the recent fatal shooting at a gas station in Suitland. The suspect is 24-year-old Furl Williams of no fixed address. He’s charged with the murder of 27-year-old Wayne Pope of Suitland.

On May 3rd, shortly after midnight, patrol officers responded to the gas station in the 4700 block of Silver Hill Road. The officers found the victim outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The preliminary investigation reveals the victim had gone into the gas station to make a purchase. When he was returning to his car, the suspect approached him armed with a gun. The victim and suspect got into a struggle. The suspect shot the victim during that struggle and then stole his car.

Williams is in custody in Montgomery County on an unrelated homicide charge.
