Two Suspects Arrested in Berwyn Heights Homicide



The Homicide Unit arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a New Carrolton man. The suspects are 21-year-old Erick Hernandez-Martinez of the 4800 block of Naples Avenue in Beltsville and 19-year-old Jose Lara Campos of the 11200 block of Evans Trail in Beltsville. They are charged in connection with the death of 38-year-old Juan Ponce of Gavin Street in New Carrolton. The suspects and victim were acquaintances.

On May 3rd, at about 9:20 pm, a citizen discovered the victim’s body outside in the 5700 block of Nevada Street and called police. Officers with the Berwyn Heights Police Department, Maryland-National Capital Park Police and the Prince George’s County Police Department responded.

An autopsy revealed the man died from trauma to the body. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The motive remains under investigation.

Hernandez-Martinez and Lara Campos are charged with first and second degree murder. They are in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
